From official-portal extracts (captured ):

  • The e-Visa costs USD 10 and is valid for 180 days, as stated in the official fee box for this route.
  • For in-person visa applications at the consulates in China, the fee is paid in cash in local currency and the amount changes with the monthly exchange rate. [2]

How to apply

  1. Request an appointment by emailing visasha@sre.gob.mx, writing your full name, passport number, nationality, date of birth, province and city of residence and mobile number in the body of the message rather than in an attachment. [2]
  2. Wait for a confirmation reply, which usually arrives within about 5 working days; check your spam or junk folder in case it lands there. [2]
  3. Attend the appointment at the consulate with all your paperwork complete and correctly ordered, since companions are not allowed inside. [2]
  4. If the interview is approved, the consulate collects the visa fee and issues the visa within 10 working days of the interview date. [2]

Before you fly

  • Travellers from countries on Mexico's published visa-exemption list may enter without a visa for non-lucrative visits of less than 180 days. [2]
  • Holders of a valid APEC Business Travel Card recognised by Mexico do not need a visa for a non-lucrative visit. [2]

The Shanghai consulate only accepts applicants who live in Shanghai, Zhejiang, Jiangsu or Anhui; residents of other provinces must apply at the Mexican office covering their area. [2]
If you are a non-Chinese applicant, you may be asked for proof of your legal stay in China, so bring the original and a copy of your residence permit. [1]
