Japan Visa Requirements for Indonesian Citizens (2026)

Specifically for Indonesian passport holders
- •Diplomatic/official passports only: Indonesian diplomatic and official passport holders are exempt from a visa for stays of up to 30 days under reciprocal arrangements that took effect on 20 July 2016. [1]

- •Visa fees are normally paid in cash in the local currency, but when you apply for an eVISA through the JAPAN eVISA website, online credit-card payment is available for certain countries and regions. [6]

How to apply
- Confirm the visa type and the documents your purpose of visit requires before you start your application. [13]
- Enter your application information on the JAPAN eVISA website (evisa.mofa.go.jp). [13]
- Wait for the examination result, which is sent to the email address you registered. [13]
- After the fee notification, pay the visa fee online by credit card; if no fee applies, the eVISA is issued automatically once the result is ready. [13]
- Receive your eVISA after payment, since electronic visas are issued to those who applied through the JAPAN eVISA website. [14]
- Alternatively, apply at the Japanese embassy or consulate with jurisdiction, through a proxy holding a letter of proxy, or through an embassy-approved travel agent. [6]
Before you fly
- •A short-term visit for tourism, business or visiting friends and relatives is allowed only if you carry out no paid activities in Japan. [7]
- •Only ordinary passport holders are eligible to apply through the JAPAN eVISA website. [14]
- •Pre-entry tuberculosis screening applies to Indonesian nationals entering for medium- to long-term stays in certain statuses, but not to temporary visitors. [15]

Your application can be refused if your documents are not authentic and complete, if your planned activities do not match a status of residence under the Immigration Control Act, or if you fall under its grounds of exclusion. [2]
