How to apply
- You do not need a visa for tourist trips of up to 90 days; the steps below apply only if you choose to apply for a Japanese eVISA instead.
- Step 1: check the visa type and documents needed for your trip; tourist visas cover stays of up to 90 days and do not allow paid work. [12]
- Step 2: enter your application information on the JAPAN eVISA website. [12]
- Step 3: the examination result is sent to the email address you registered. [12]
- Step 4: if a fee applies, pay it online by credit card once you receive the fee notification email. [12]

Conditions & fine print
- •Persons who have been sentenced to 1 year or more of jail are not eligible for visa free travel to Japan. United States citizens are also eligible for a Japanese eVisa.
Watch out for
eVISA holders must display the "Visa issuance notice" at the airport on a device connected to the internet; PDF files, screenshots and printed copies are not accepted. [13]
