From official-portal extracts (captured ):
- •Visa fees must in principle be paid in cash in the local currency; for JAPAN eVISA applications, online credit-card payment is available in certain countries and regions. [5]
- •
- •If you apply through an agency approved by the Embassy or Consulate General, the agency charges a separate handling fee on top of the visa fee. [8]
- •The fee depends on your purpose of visit and nationality and may not be required at all; the eVisa fee is not a fixed amount, so confirm the exact figure on the official portal. [8]
How to apply
- Confirm which visa you need and which documents to submit: short-term tourism of up to 90 days, with no paid activities. [12] [6]
- Apply online through the JAPAN eVISA website, or through an accredited agency where that is required for your case. [12] [13]
- Enter the information required for the online visa application. [12]
- Wait for the examination result, which is sent to the email address you registered. [12]
- Pay the visa fee online by credit card after the fee notification; if no fee applies, the eVISA is issued automatically after the result. [12]
- Travel with the Visa issuance notice ready to display online at the airport. [13]
Before you fly
- •eVISA holders must display the Visa issuance notice at the airport on a device with an internet connection; PDF data, screenshots and printed copies are not accepted. [13]
- •The JAPAN eVISA system covers travel to Japan by air, or by sea only on international scheduled passenger ferries between Japan and Busan or Shanghai. [13]
- •Only ordinary passport holders are eligible to apply through the JAPAN eVISA website. [13]
- •You may be requested to appear in person for an interview at the Japanese overseas establishment with jurisdiction over your place of residence. [13]

Watch out for
For Vietnamese nationals residing in Vietnam, the period of stay on an electronic visa will be 15 days, shorter than the usual short-term maximum. [13]
Vietnamese nationals residing in Vietnam who join a packaged tour organised by designated travel agencies must apply through an accredited agency; check the website of the Japanese overseas establishment with jurisdiction over your residence. [13]
Apply at the Japanese Embassy or Consulate General with jurisdiction over your country of nationality or residence; you cannot normally apply at your travel destination. [5]
A visa is not guaranteed: issuance is a sovereign decision of Japan and requires that you meet all issuance criteria with authentic and complete documents. [1] [5]
